Embracing your new identity. We had a powerful lesson in our F.U.E.L. session on Sunday. Our Bible Studies for Life series took our focus to Romans 6:8-18. In examining this text we are reminded of the transformation that we experienced when we began our relationship with Christ. Our new life in Christ gave us a brand identity. It reminds me of the witness protection program; you know how one that is in the witness protection is given a new name and identification card, some are relocated so that they are no longer associated with the mistakes of their past or the consequences of those mistakes. Well that is what new life in Christ does for us; It disconnects us from the mistakes of our past. Now, it is imperative that one understands the implications of this identity. The believer recognizes that Christs death, burial and resurrection allows life in Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit; that power enables us to be dead to sins powers but obedient to Gods will. We are also able to refrain from allowing any part of our physical being be used to carry out sinful acts. Our hearts should be prompted to Serve God with a grateful spirit. The biblical text also suggests that all people are enslaved, either tied to sin or tied to God. It is easy to identify with whom you are connected. A person that is living life with a Christ connection is filled with the word of God, understands the importance of worship with fellow Christians and has a strong prayer life. The question is this, have you embraced your new identity?
